What is Nutritional Therapy?

Nutritional Therapy is a complementary therapy that uses evidence - based research and practice to support clients where a range of factors including diet, nutrition, lifestyle and eating behaviours along with other factors are assessed. The Functional Medicine Model is applied to review cases and embed a client centred approach where Nutritional Science is reviewed from a cellular level to establish potential deficiencies and roots causes that maybe linked to presenting symptoms.

What exactly is Functional Medicine and and how does this relate to Nutritional Therapy?

You might have heard of the term ‘Functional Medicine’ and wondered what this means or how it can help you. Functional Medicine is a systems biology model which we refer to as ‘individualised and client-centred’. Functional Medicine also focuses on the root cause of the illness or health concern rather than focusing on the symptom.
Nutritional Therapy often adapts the Functional Medicine approach and uses aspects of it to address nutritional balance and help support individuals towards maintaining health. Nutritional Therapy practitioners assess the client’s health and nutritional status by piecing together the client's health history, current symptoms, genetic data (if relevant) and any clinical test results to identify nutritional imbalances and how these could be contributing towards an individual’s symptoms and health concerns. This is then followed by a personalised nutrition and lifestyle programme that is unique for that individual client where specific nutrition and lifestyle recommendations are put forward to help enhance your well-being.

Who is Nutritional Therapy suitable for?

Nutritional Therapy can support you whether you have a chronic health condition or are just interested in enhancing your health and well-being. As Nutritional Therapists we are not able to treat or diagnose conditions, however we can support and advise you on nutrition and lifestyle factors that may benefit you. We will work alongside other healthcare practitioners where relevant and with your permission.
